2020.09.26 05:39 Frixti0n_ Most satisfying league ever!

Hello everyone!
I played this game for years and always loved it. Today I wanted to join on the developpers congratulations train that is running on this cheerful little forum. Why is that? Because this league is the UNDISPUTED best one to date. Why is that? Well I'm a human being and I like to collect stuff. This is what I actually always loved in Path of Exile. Collecting everything that is falling on the ground to stack it in one of the 6542167987 stash tabs I bought with smile.
In Heist league, the UNDISPUTED best one to date, I can collect those new "Rogue's Markers" in every zone. While levelling and even more in maps, those shiny red coins are raining like nothing else! Picking them up is so satisfying that I bought 247 new Mystery Boxes to thanks the developpers. Thus inspiring my reroll name "MysteryBoxesMadeMePoor" (because I tried all new spells with my first character but wasn't smart enough to make them work).
The cherry on the cake was that I could store those coins in this special and free Heist locker. There also are some "Contracts" that I'm looting but I don't really enjoy picking them up because they don't drop in stacks and a lot of complicated things are written on it. Do you guys know what they are ? It has to be easter eggs from those secretive developpers ;) got you!
For now I've picked up not less than 69 Rogue's Markers! I know this is not a lot compared to you hardcore gamers and forum fellows but I'm still proud of myself because I already quitted the league (I'm someone that get bored very quickly). By the way guys, there is this little bug when I'm right clicking the red coins. I hear a portal opening sound and then I crash. Is this another easter egg ?
Have a good day Exile and good luck finding more and more Rogue's Markers!

2020.09.26 05:18 MrMackeyMmkay A Life Altering and Devastatingly Honest Experience - My Letterboxd Review/Love Letter to Synecdoche, New York

100
“I know how to do it now. There are nearly 13 million people in the world. None of these people is an extra. They’re all the leads of their own stories. They have to be given their due.”
It is Thursday, September 24th, 2020. The time is 9:34 PM. I’m sitting on the couch in my game room after sitting through the credits of Synecdoche, New York. And I am a mess.
I said the word “I” and a variation of it twice in that little paragraph. What is “I”? What am I? Am I human? Am I a projection?
What. I said the word “what” twice. What is what? Is it referring to the unknown? Or is it referring to what we say when we already know something, but we pretend like we don’t in order to create conversation?
Conversation. What is conversation? What doesn’t take to create an effective conversation? People. More than one person. Or less than two people. A conversation with yourself. A conversation with the mind. Imaginary friends. Consciousness. A persons conscious.
Conscious. No one knows exactly what a conscious is, but everyone knows that they have one. Some people speak to their consciousness on the daily, almost as if it’s alive.
Alive. Are we alive? To answer that question, we should take a look at what it means to be alive. Take a look at someone that’s alive. Take a look at yourself. You’re alive. It may not feel like it sometimes, but you are. If you’re alive, you have emotions. That’s one of the most interesting things about being human. Emotion. The ability to feel. Think. Love. Yearn. Touch. Hear. Wake. Sleep. Beautiful things in their own way. But, you can over think. You can overyearn. Touch too many things. Hear things you aren’t supposed too. Wake up late, or wake up when you don’t really want too. Sleep when you should be awake. Everything has an effect on everything.
“Everything is everything.”
Everything has a string attached to it. Nothing you do is one off. It’ll have an affect on you, or someone else, in the future. The future could be a couple of seconds. The future could be ten years. The future could be a lifetime. Something you do when you’re 10 can affect you when you’re on your deathbed.
“Everything is more complicated than you think. You only see a tenth of what is true. There are a million little strings attached to every choice you make; you can destroy your life every time you choose. But maybe you won't know for twenty years. And you may never ever trace it to its source. And you only get one chance to play it out. Just try and figure out your own divorce. And they say there is no fate, but there is: it's what you create. And even though the world goes on for eons and eons, you are only here for a fraction of a fraction of a second. Most of your time is spent being dead or not yet born. But while alive, you wait in vain, wasting years, for a phone call or a letter or a look from someone or something to make it all right. And it never comes or it seems to but it doesn't really. And so you spend your time in vague regret or vaguer hope that something good will come along. Something to make you feel connected, something to make you feel whole, something to make you feel loved. And the truth is I feel so angry, and the truth is I feel so fucking sad, and the truth is I've felt so fucking hurt for so fucking long and for just as long I've been pretending I'm OK, just to get along, just for, I don't know why, maybe because no one wants to hear about my misery, because they have their own. Well, fuck everybody. Amen.”
Loved. Love. Loving. Lover. Love is something that can be either eternal or devastatingly temporary. Love can go painstakingly slow or breathtakingly fast. We’re happy when it’s here, but we’re empty when it leaves. Emptiness leads to loneliness. Loneliness is devastation.
“I’m lonely.”
Caden is the epitome of loneliness. Our epitome of loneliness. He’s a branch of Kaufman. An extended, withering branch. Withering like a rose tattoo on a deathbed. But he’s not only an extension of Kaufman as a human, but he’s an extension of us. Of our subconscious, of our intruding thoughts. German translating to English through headsets. Inches apart. Love that used to be prevalent, drifting away. Drifted away because of time. Time. The most confusing subject to grace the tongue of humanity. No one knows what it is. If it ends, when it ends, or if it’s even begun.
Begin, begun, began. When does something begin? When does it end? Are we always at the end? Staring death in its face every second of every day, always wondering when he’s gonna take us? If he’s gonna take us? How he’s gonna take us? He follows you. Every day. You don’t see him, but he’s in your shadows. Lurking. Waiting.
“I will be dying and so will you, and so will everyone here. That's what I want to explore. We're all hurtling towards death, yet here we are for the moment, alive. Each of us knowing we're going to die, each of us secretly believing we won't.”
“It’s a big decision, how one prefers to die.”
Waiting. To wait. Waiting can feel like an eternity, when it’s only been a couple of minutes. It can also feel like a couple of minutes, when in reality, it’s been an eternity. Years in the span of a couple of minutes. Dates on orange juice and the same bland newspaper you get every morning, pretending to be interested in it, when in reality, you’re contemplating your life and everything in it. How you’re going to die and when. You sip your coffee. You hide your feelings. You put on the face people want to see. You live the typical life, but you’re eaten on the inside. Eaten alive. Slowly being consumed by maggots. But no one can know. Except for when you let it out. That one moment when you let lose. But no one really notices. You let loose more often, but your happy mask has become permanent. Hide it. Hide it with humor. A scar on your forehead. A burning house. Living in the moment, when really you’re living in the past, yet still concerned about the future. Lost within time itself, whatever gargantuan, mysterious being it is.
“I've watched you forever, Caden, but you've never really looked at anyone other than yourself. So watch me. Watch my heart break. Watch me jump. Watch me learn that after death there's nothing. There's no more watching. There's no more following. No love. Say goodbye to Hazel for me. And say it to yourself, too. None of us has much time.”
Lost. Lose. Losing. Losing someone. The thought of it is enough to devastate any human. Take the person closest to you. Take a good look at them. They’ll be gone one day. Forever forgotten. Maybe not by you, but by the world. History and time. Existentialistic terror. We all want to be remembered. No one wants to fade away from the world without leaving their mark. Maybe your mark is the replica of New York. A warehouse inside of a warehouse inside of a warehouse. Thoughts inside of thoughts inside of thoughts. We all want this mark of our own, but we rarely ever achieve it. So we remember this. We don’t think ahead. We think in the now. We live in the now. We live in our own burning house. We know the flames will kill us, but we don’t care. We ignore them. It’s easy to ignore, but it’s not easy to forget. Not easy to forget the pain. Not easy to forget the person(s) that caused it. However, it also isn’t easy to forget the person(s) that helped you through it. That’s how you know you left a mark. You’ve had a fade to grey, but you’ve also had a fade in from grey. Whoever is reading this, know that you’ve made your mark. You may think you’re lost in the dust of time, but you’re not. You’ve impacted someone. But it never feels like that. It always feels like you just disappear from the world. From reality and everything surrounding it. Sometimes you have your Theater moment - your moment in the spotlight. But it always fades away - either that or you do. Caden doesn’t know it, but he’s left his mark. The mark he’s been trying for decades to make. The mark he’s made through the years of thinking he’s sick. Dying. Fading away.
“I breathe your name in every exhalation.”
Every synopsis that I have read about this film has been gravely incorrect.
“This is about everything.”
This isn’t a film about theater. This isn’t a film about Caden Cotard building a replica of New York. This is about love, death, sorrow, time, existentialism, consciousness, surrealism, self reflection, depression, anxiety, mental illness, thoughts of every kind, sophistication, and the unknown. This film has had an impact on me that I can’t even begin to describe. I have never felt this way. I laughed. I cried. I don’t know how to put this into words. I will be thinking about this film for the rest of my life. Forever in pain. Forever in love with this film. This is what I’ll be thinking about when I’m on my deathbed, reflecting my life and the events in it. This movie has spoken to me on a level that nothing else has. Nothing has ever felt this personal. This intimate. This intense. This poetic. This piercing. This devastating. I have never cried after a film, but tears were streaming down my face after this. I have been destroyed. I have been broken. I have never felt this way. Not from anything, let alone a film. I have a new definition of cinema. I’m rethinking my entire 100’s list after seeing this. Nothing has ever felt so perfect. This film has pierced my soul. It has pierced my heart and my emotions. It has obliterated my thoughts and intruded into my daily life. It’s all I've been thinking about. I feel like it’s all I will ever think about. This has broken me. This has shattered me and torn me apart. I have never been so depressed, yet so taken aback at the beauty of something. I don’t even know how to put the way this film made me feel into words. Quite frankly, I think it’s impossible. The characters in this film don’t feel like characters. They feel like people. Like extensions of my subconscious. The writing is the most impeccable piece of art that I have ever read. The editing is seamlessly gorgeous. The soundtrack alone is perfect. And the way it all comes together is the most beautiful thing that I have ever seen in my life. Every time I think about this film, I’m on the verge of tears. Full on, unadulterated tears. Not the artificial ones Caden pours into his eyes. This felt like a biography. Not only a biography of me. Not only a biography of Charlie Kaufman. Rather, a biography of the world. An accounting of it as it happens. Like Kaufman is looking at the events of the world and writing the film as they go on. And even though it’s 12 years old, it feels as if it’s still being written. As if every viewing takes on a whole different meaning. As if Kaufman is still adding to it. Nothing has affected me emotionally on this level. Every step I take. Every time I blink. Every time I take a breath. Every time I wake up and every time I go to sleep, I will be thinking about this film. Very few things have impacted my life like this. Changed it, for better or for worse. This has spoken to me. It has touched my heart, but it has also ripped it out of my chest. I can’t put it into words. I want to give Mr. Kaufman a personal thank you. I want to shake his hand and bawl my eyes out as I tell him how he has affected my day to day life and the way I think. I want to talk to him and tell him that I love him. That he has given me countless influences for my future films. That he has changed the way I look at life. That his films have changed not only my cinematic lense, but also my day to day decisions. That the level of detail he puts into his films have inspired me more than any film class I could ever take. That the brutal and unadulterated honesty that he puts in his films will forever speak to me on a deeply personal level. He’ll never see this, and I’ll probably never get to speak to him. And this review will probably blow away in the wind some day. But, nevertheless, Kaufman has prepared me for that. Synecdoche, New York is the best film that I have ever seen in my life. An unfathomably brilliant escapade of metaphorical brilliance and tender, touching themes. And it is now my go too answer when someone asks me what a perfect film is. I never thought The Shining would get dethroned as my favorite film of all time. Things have come close, like Pulp Fiction, Scream, and Terminator 2: Judgement Day. And while I feel like The Shining will forever hold a special place in my heart, and it will always be in my top 3, I must take it down as my favorite of all time, simply because I’ve never had any film cater to my emotions like this one. There isn’t a single thing I would change. There isn’t a moment I didn’t treasure. Not a moment where I wasn’t aching. Not a moment where I wasn’t at this films helm, being controlled by its every move. This is a prime example of why I love film. Why it’s such a big part of my life. And why I truly believe that it is the most powerful form of media to ever exist.
“I’ve been thinking about dying lately.”
“I will have someone play me, to delve into the murky, cowardly depths of my lonely, fucked-up being.”
I understood Synecdoche. But even if you watch it and don’t understand it, just know that you can rest easy, because I promise that Synecdoche, New York understands you.
“The end is built into the beginning.”

2020.09.26 05:16 MrMackeyMmkay A Life Altering and Devastatingly Honest Experience - My Letterboxd Review of Synecdoche, New York

2020.09.26 00:18 Kalivan632 Everyone is a Bizarre DMPC act3 the end game

*Session 5\*
We continued right where we left... But it was only a dream! Spoooooky! No permanent harm.
Back to the race, he made us roll again only a 1d100 and with a 56... we ended on the 14th place. No idea how he “calculated” the result
We entered the next city and the DM suggested that “we needed new weapons at that point”. Ok, let's go get them! Except... we have no money and he's charging over a 100GP for an upgrade and 1500GP for a new weapon.
The shop owner kindly offered us to leave our old weapons and some money in exchange of the new ones. We accepted the deal and left most of our weapons. The new ones would take a day to be ready.
But as soon as we leave and walk through the ONLY PATH AVAILABLE to get back at the hotel, ANOTHER DMPC attacks.
This time around the dude had 500HP and 17 AC and... wait, we just left our weapons under the DM's suggestion.
Somehow and after having 1 player down, we won. No, the DM wasn't fumbling dice, we played through Roll20, so all attacks were visible. It was just sheer luck on our side.
As soon as the DMPC dies, guess who was menacingly looking at us from a far away distance? IT WAS CARNE HIMSELF! That somehow, when thrown by a running horse on the opposite direction managed to release himself, catch the horse and get to the city before we did. He just stared and left mysteriously.
“Fuck this” And we went back to the hotel to lick our wounds.
DM finally gave us downtime! My character went to pick a fight at a bar because why not!
Bar was closed.
“Okay, I'm going to pick a fight on the street, I want to punch someone!”
Police came (Yes, apparently NOW there are police officers) and stepped in, saying that fighting was illegal right now because it was “goblin fight night”. And no one wanted to fight.
“Okay, where can I fist fight someone?”
“Go to the Gym”
And so I did... only to discover that my opponent was none other than MOTHER FUCKING ONE PUNCH MAN SAITAMA, who had +300 initative and 100d6 per punch. I WISH I was kidding about the numbers.
You can guess the result of the outcome. And the DM kindly left me “knocked out” for the rest of the session, unable to wake up or play.
Enough was enough. We argued with him that his characters and choices were unfair and insulting to the players. He only apologized, left the server and blocked all the players.
But there's a happy ending to this tale. After that horrible game, one of the players started her own JoJo/DnD game and invited everyone (except the DM) back. We're now dating and we're honestly very happy both in and out of game.

2020.09.25 23:18 Oreos_CS 27 [M4F] Dorset, UK - I swear Reddit isn't popular in the South?

Hello!
I'm not really sure what I'm seeking at the moment, maybe a casual/dating relationship with someone and see where we end up. I'm fed up of coming home most nights to my flat and having no one to vent my frustration to about my day, have a cuddle with and cook dinner for it's the little things you know? I'm an open minded, laid back, hard worker and logical thinker with a great sense of humour.
I've listed my interests below and I'm terrible at describing myself so if you like what you've read, drop me a message with a short bit about yourself.
P.S. Your picture gets my picture in return.

2020.09.25 21:48 dogeman87 I just found out why I’m an only child.

You know how it goes. They tell you you’re the perfect child. You were so perfect that they didn’t want to have any more. You’re smart, caring, sociable. Any goal they set for you is reached. Any goal you set for yourself is too high, but you reach it anyways.
I imagine that is how most only children feel at some point. My parents are wonderful people, and I think most of what they say about me is true, even if they tend to sugarcoat it. Now that I’m in college, I do some more questionable things that they might not approve of, but who doesn’t?
In truth, I’m not as perfect as they make me out to be. I’m an above-average student, but I’m not pre-med or engineering. I’m majoring in economics. I do well, I get solid A’s and a few B’s, and I’m active in a couple clubs. I still have no idea what I want to do in life, though.
I’ve only dated one girl, all the way back in sophomore year of high school. The relationship fell apart at the beginning of senior year. We split amicably, I think. Since then, I just haven’t found anyone. You know how it is, scrolling through Tinder and finding so many prospects but then realizing that all of them are either assholes or comically awkward.
Does it bother me? No. None of it does. I couldn’t care less if I’m dating or doing well in school. As long as I’m maintaining my GPA and having fun, classes don’t bother me. I go to parties, I hang out with friends, I smoke a bit of weed every now and then. I’m living the college life.
Well, I was. Then I had this conversation with my dad my freshman year. I’m a senior now. It seemed harmless enough. He asked how my week went, and I told him fine. I asked how he and mom were doing, and he said fine. He asked me what my grades were. Normal, I told him. A’s and B’s. He was satisfied.
Before he hung up, he admitted something to me. “Grant,” he said. “Have you noticed anything strange lately?”
I was dumbfounded. “No, Dad. What do you mean?”
“I don’t know.”
He left it at that, and I could only speculate what he had meant. He wouldn’t elaborate. He only told me to have a great rest of my day.
The next evening, he washed up dead on the riverbank.
*
After two weeks, the police gave up. They said the cause of death was drowning. The autopsy matched up, I guess. They don’t know who did it. The fact that there was foul play is obvious, because my dad was stripped of his wedding ring and clothes and he lived far away from the river.
I had to fly halfway across the country for the funeral. I ended up taking incompletes for my classes that semester. The day would not move fast enough. The services took forever. I don’t remember much, only shaking a lot of people’s hands and watching my mother fall apart. That was the hardest part, I think, watching her sob uncontrollably. Nothing is more disturbing than watching a loved one break down like that. It hits hard, harder than a punch or a knife to the gut. It twists your stomach until you can’t eat anymore, can’t sleep, or maybe you sleep for fifteen hours and still feel exhausted.
I don’t like to dwell on the funeral, so I won’t. I’ll let your imagination fill in the blanks. You can picture what it was like.
I returned to school the next semester. Everyone was sympathetic, but at the same time they gave me space. They knew I didn’t want to talk about it. What college student would? How weird would that have been, breaking down at a party or in the middle of class and talking about my dead dad? Normal, yes, but also embarrassing as hell.
Nevertheless, I found myself talking about it with some girl. I was drunk, way too drunk for my own good. One thing they don’t tell you at parties is how to pace yourself. College kids don’t have much tolerance for alcohol. A couple beers is all it takes to get wasted, for some of us.
I was a little different. I’m tall, over six feet, so I could take more than most. Still, I had only been to a handful of parties at that point. It only took a couple hours to lose self-control.
The girl was pretty. I remember that, though I don’t remember what she actually looked like. She consoled me for a while. I don’t remember why I was talking about my dad, either. I’m sure she had heard the story already. Word got around campus fast. She still listened.
I’m not sure how it escalated, but one thing led to another, and the next thing I remember she was sucking my dick in a closet. Sounds bad, I know, and it was. Not as bad as some of the other things, though. Someone had brought coke- thank God I didn’t go for that- and as we’d made our way to the back of the house, I saw a couple having sex on the couch. In the middle of the room. People were just walking around them like it was nothing.
At least I wore a condom?
Whatever. College is crazy. Case closed. Right?
I wish it were that simple. Thing is, after we had sex the girl, understandably, left me by myself. Probably went to blow some other guy. I went back into the main room, and that’s when things started to go to shit.
They were still doing coke. One of the guys offered some. When I declined, he pressed a straw into my hand instead. I told him he could go shove it. For some reason, the guy didn’t react. He just turned back to the table.
I knew I had to get out of there. Getting caught with alcohol is one thing. But coke? I could go to prison for that. I started extracting myself from the room when I heard it.
There was someone in the bathroom at the top of the stairs. They were whimpering. My first guess was sex, because I’d seen so much of it already that night. But there was only one voice, and the whimpers sounded like pain. Then there was a thud.
I knocked on the door. No response. I rattled the doorknob, and of course it was locked. Then I kicked the door in. The guy that I’d heard was on the floor. There was a little blood, but most startling was the pool of vomit and the guy’s facial expression. He looked dead. I checked his pulse, determined that he was indeed alive, then rolled him onto his side and pulled out my phone to call an ambulance.
That’s when I saw the shadow. It was so faint. I’m not sure how I noticed, really, except for the fact that it shifted. I looked at the shower curtain. Fear settled in my stomach then. I realized that I was in a room on the second floor, far from the rest of the party, with no one but the passed-out guy within calling distance.
The shadow was just from a headlight outside. I began to breath again. Then I felt the hand on my shoulder.
I tried to scream. Another hand slowly closed around my mouth. It was cold and leathery, and wet. I tasted what was probably blood, and I suspected it was from the hand. I began to hyperventilate, which, as you might have guessed, was a really bad idea when my airway was being blocked. I pretty much was asking to lose consciousness.
The hand that had grabbed my shoulder moved down my back. I felt what I can only describe as a tonguelike protrusion running over my neck. I trembled. I figured I was about to die. I would be lying on the floor like this guy, killed by a monster, and no one would find us until next morning at the earliest, and undoubtedly they would think I died the same way as him.
Amazingly, my first thought was of my mom. She couldn’t deal with another death in the family. She would lose it, as anyone would. That, more than the immediate threat that had presented itself, chilled me.
That’s when I ripped the hand from my mouth and screamed. The hand fell on the floor, disintegrated into dust, and I screamed some more.
Whatever had been behind me was gone. I knew it the second it left, because the room suddenly warmed up. I had not realized it had been so cold. Probably I had been too caught up in the moment. The temperature now was like a sauna in comparison.
I looked around frantically. I examined the walls, the ceiling, brushed back the shower curtain, peered carefully behind the toilet. There was nothing. I sat there on the floor for a while, waiting for the shadow and the monster to return. My skin crawled, thinking of that leathery hand on my mouth, the tongue leaving saliva on my neck.
If I had been doing coke, I could have chalked it up to a hallucination. But I’d been clean. I’d had a few beers, but at that moment I was pretty lucid. I was certainly more lucid than the guy on the floor.
I had forgotten about him, actually. I looked at my phone, which had fallen on the floor during my encounter with the shadow, and I picked it up. I dialed 911, told them what had happened, then left. The next morning half a dozen people were looking at drug charges in addition to underage drinking.
The guy that I found? He recovered. I think after that he didn’t go to any more parties. I don’t blame him. His blood alcohol content was .35, if I remember correctly. He should have been dead.
I didn’t go to many other parties, but for a different reason. My name had not been used in the paper, so my mom didn’t know. There was no pressure from her or anyone else, least of all the police, who chastised me but were happy that I did the right thing. No, it was the shadow that stopped me. I didn’t want to be in a place where everyone was drunk or coked out again, because if I was that shadow could return and probably kill me. I’m certain that it left because it thought others would find it. It was waiting for a time when I was alone.
Much better to stay home, in the safety of the dorms, with my two other roommates and the dozen others that were within earshot and sober. Much better to forget what had happened, chalk it up to stress or a laced drink, and go on with my life as I had before.
Thing is, it’s never that simple. I wasn’t able to forget about the monster, because that wasn’t the last time I saw it.
\*
My roommates were out, and I was by myself. That was the first mistake. Jason had gone to a D&D game. Richard had been invited to a party by one of the football players, somehow. He’s not athletic, not particularly impressive in any way, but he’s chill as hell. Everyone is his friend, which is probably how he got invited.
I wasn’t doing much. I was not alone, either. There were people on either side of my room, behind the walls, guys who were probably jerking off or playing video games. Me? I was reading a book. I know, not exactly what you would expect from someone my age. But I like reading. I especially like Stephen King (which may have been the wrong thing to read at that moment), and that’s what I was reading when I heard the noise.
I didn’t react to it. I figured someone was outside. We lived in suites, where four or five rooms shared a semi-private bathroom. It was a hell of a lot better than the bathrooms in other dorms, which were set up for entire floors. Here you could have some privacy.
The bathroom door closed. There was a loud grunt, then a plop. I sighed. It was probably Randolph. He takes the largest shits of anyone I have ever known. He can sit there for twenty minutes and keep dropping them. Usually we have to use the plunger or call maintenance when that happens. That night, though, would be different.
He gave out a yelp, and then I heard the door slam. I looked up. My door was partially closed, so I walked over to open it, and that’s when I saw him. He was slumped over on the toilet.
I ran over to him, ignored the penis in his hands, and checked for a pulse. He seemed fine. There were no wounds on him. He hadn’t moved, either, had obviously passed out on the seat. So how had the door been flung open?
I felt it again. The hand. It was on my arm this time. I would have let out a scream had it not clamped down. It felt like my bones were being grinded together. The pain was so immense that my vision flickered, and I could only whimper.
I was thrown back into my room. Somehow, I landed on my bed. Then I saw it. The monster was there, standing in the doorway. Perhaps demon is a better word. It was tall, maybe seven or eight feet, and it was completely black. I don’t mean black as in a black laptop or shirt or an xbox. This thing defied logic. It seemed to be so dark that light did nothing to illuminate it.
It had horns, antler-like but distinct in that they came from the side of its head and were not very long. The eyes were the worst. They were coal-black, with tinges of red where white should have been. And they were looking straight at me.
I did scream then. Someone said something in an adjacent room. The demon’s head whipped to the side unnaturally, like a kid whipping a pool noodle, and then it scrambled into the ceiling. Yeah, you read that right. It went into the ceiling, climbed up the walls like a drugged-up lizard and just phased through the tiles.
I didn’t move until the RA came over. He noticed Randolph first. Surprisingly, he did not make any snide remarks about Randolph’s dick. He called campus police before asking me what had happened. I told him. I asked if I would be in trouble. He said no way, because I obviously had not hurt Randolph. What had happened to him was a mystery.
Well, until the police arrived. They took him in, and I heard that he tested positive for MDMA. Ecstasy. I had not known him to be the druggie type. I mean, most college students experiment, but doing it in the dorm? It was asking for trouble. And Randolph was not stupid. He was a lot smarter than me, got a single B first semester and didn’t have to study as hard as most of us.
I wished he had been awake to see the demon. If he had been, of course, I suspect the demon would not have showed. It seemed to be fixated on me and me alone. It did not want to be seen by others. That was a comfort, I suppose, if not downright terrifying. There would be moments, I was sure, where I was forced to be alone. In the dorm or at a party or in a bathroom between classes… forgive me for the cliché, but the possibilities were endless.
So I told my roommates about what had happened. They didn’t get back until late that night, well after I had gone to sleep. I don’t know how I did. I guess I’m a heavy sleeper, is all. You kind of have to be if you want any rest in a dorm, at least one as rowdy as ours can get.
None of us had classes the next morning. Jason was skeptical, as he should have been. If he had told me about monsters and demons, I wouldn’t have believed him. Richard was more open to the idea, but he didn’t seem to care. He told me to chill out. I was too stressed, he said. Did I need to talk about what had happened last semester?
“It has nothing to do with that,” I snapped.
He raised his hands. “Hey, dude, don’t yell at me. I’m just trying to help.”
“Yeah,” I told him. “I know.”
“Then listen to me, man. You need to take a breather. When’s the last time you went to a party? Hey, you know what, I’ve got the perfect idea. I met this girl last night. Super hot and friendly. She’s your type. I think-“
“I’m not looking for a hookup,” I said flatly.
“What? You’re gonna turn down sex?”
I stared at him, and I think he finally got the message. He shut up.
“I have an idea,” Jason said. “What if we set up surveillance? I know a place where we can get hidden cameras. It’s not far from campus. I’ll get them after class Friday. If it doesn’t like being watched, like you say, then it shouldn’t bother you again.”
I knew Jason didn’t believe me. Still, the fact that he wanted to ease my nerves meant a lot. He’s not the most outgoing kind of guy. He’s a nerd, a chemistry student with a passion for chemistry and nothing else. He’s involved in academic extracurriculars only. I think he’s dated before, but I never learned the details. He doesn’t talk about girls. I only know that there’s this one girl in my English class, Jessica, who says he’s a creep.
We stuck to the plan. It wasn’t foolproof- I would find myself alone outside of the dorm eventually- but it was good enough. As it turned out, I would be by myself Saturday morning. Jason had a club meeting that for some reason had not been held during the week, and Richard was going on a date. He has unconventional good looks- long black hair, brown eyes, thin beard with just the right shape- and he’s smooth. Like, more smooth than should be humanly possible. He’s chill around us and chiller around girls, like he’s known them forever. They love that about him, how genuine he can be.
I begged one of them to stay. Jason told me, understandably, that he couldn’t miss the meeting. Richard was not about to ghost the girl he had been building a relationship with for the past month. Jason said I could always call for the RA or other guys in the dorm. I figured he was right. I also figured I didn’t want the demon to show up at all. Screw proving it to my roommates- I just wanted it to go away.
It didn’t appear until two hours after Jason left. Richard had already been gone for a while, had probably made his way back to the girl’s room. I heard it before I saw it. The demon made a slithering sound when it walked. I had not noticed before because it always appeared, never really moved across the room.
I looked up. You’d think seeing it two times before would make it less scary. You’d be wrong. Having a seven-foot, black-skinned behemoth with antlers and red eyes stand over you, it’s just too much. I screamed like a girl. I guess that time it didn’t get close enough to shut me up.
Its head darted toward the door, and for some reason I took my eyes off the thing. Jason was standing there with his backpack in his hand. His jaw had dropped so far open I thought he would shriek like one of those possessed people in horror movies. The demon skittered up the wall and through the ceiling.
We looked at each other for a while, neither of us speaking. He was still holding his backpack in one hand. I was halfway out of my chair, frozen, ready to spring up at the sight of another monster. Finally he dropped his backpack, and I fell into my seat.
“What the fuck was that?” Jason said. His words startled me. I almost never heard him swear.
“It’s what I told you about,” I said. Even as I spoke, Jason was climbing on the bed, reaching for one of the cameras, taking it down and hooking it up to his laptop. “Now you believe me?”
“I think I have to,” he said, laughing nervously. “Unless we’re both insane.”
He tinkered with his laptop for a while. When he started cursing, I walked over and asked what the problem was. He just pointed to the screen. I looked and saw the timestamp in the bottom left corner. Twenty minutes ago, about when he had walked in and saw the demon. The room was empty. Then I saw him appear in the doorway, flabbergasted, before climbing on the bed and taking down the camera. The footage ended there.
“It didn’t show up,” I said.
“We’re both crazy, after all,” he told me.
“No, we’re not. Think about it. Would a demon want to show itself? This is the first time someone else has seen it. If you hadn’t walked in when you did, I doubt you would have ever gotten your proof.”
He rubbed his chin. “You might be right.”
“You can’t tell me you think that was a hallucination. I told you about it earlier this week. How the hell do you explain seeing what I had already seen?”
“Yeah,” Jason sighed. “I just was hoping it wasn’t real.”
We talked about it for a while. He wanted to know exactly what had happened at the party. I wasn’t sure what good it would do, but I told him anyways. There was no harm in sharing. Besides, I wanted to tell someone. I had only mentioned the demon in vague details when I had first seen it. Telling the whole story, about how it had emerged from a shadow and almost suffocated me to death, that would have been a red flag for sure. Jason would have referred me to the counseling office.
We waited for Richard to get home. When he did, he was drunk on ecstasy or alcohol or both. I don’t mean the drug ecstasy, either. He was grinning stupidly, and I was sure he’d have some wild sex story to talk about. Before he could share, Jason started explaining rapidly what had happened, and he sobered up fast.
*
Richard hadn’t been skeptical from the start. Hearing Jason talk about the demon only made him more convinced. He wanted to summon it immediately and fight.
“We’ll be killed,” I told him.
“Nah,” he said. “I can call in some of my buddies. I think one of them, that football player that lives off campus? I think he has a gun.”
“Jesus, Rich,” Jason said. “You want to bring a gun into the dorm?”
He shrugged. “Would they blame us if we were hunting a demon?”
“Yes, they would,” I told him. “There are no guns allowed. Besides, the thing didn’t show up on camera.”
“Oh. Right.”
We hinged on a plan that admittedly had more flaws than a third-grade essay. Jason did some research. He had to go through the deep web, which I know nothing about, and he found some information. First, he determined that, from my description, the demon supposedly took away men’s fertility.
Had it killed my father?
I didn’t want to think about that. It hardly mattered what had happened, because the past would not change.
We didn’t really find anything on how to kill the demon. Jason had a few suggestions based on the show Supernatural, but I shot those down. I figured a fictional series would know nothing about real life. Unless those were real, he told me. I’d seen a little of the show myself, and I insisted that what I had seen was very different than a demon occupying a human host.
In the end, we had no idea what the hell we were doing. We just made a conglomeration of different precautions. Jason bought some salt, Richard brought a hunting knife (that, unlike a gun, might not get me expelled), I asked around and found out that most of my friends found me crazy. I understood. If one of them had come to me asking about demons, I would have acted the same.
Richard also asked some of his friends for help. Somehow, they believed him. I’m not sure if it’s because of Richard’s charisma or because he never lies or both. Whatever the case, he actually found someone who claimed to know a thing or two.
She was an old woman, and she met with Richard during the week. He came back and told us that the demon took the fertility of older men, then killed them. I asked why it was stalking me. He said they did not like leaving any descendants.
I think that’s when I realized: this thing had been hunting my dad. It seemed so obvious now. There are many, many people in the world that purposefully have one child. My parents, though? I knew immediately what had happened. This demon had stalked my dad. It had killed him, too, and now it, as Richard had said, wanted to finish the job.
That was when I stopped caring. I didn’t mind that what we were doing was crazy. I didn’t mind the possibility of a horrible death, because it was quite likely given our meager preparations. I was dead anyways, and that knowledge made me more confident in what we were doing, as strange as it may sound.
After my dad died, I was never angry. My mom was, for sure; she blamed the police for botching the investigation, when in fact there was absolutely no evidence for them to use. I had understood. My dad had been murdered, yes, but without a perpetrator I had not been able to direct any anger I might have felt.
Now it was different. I wanted to confront this demon and rip its eyes from its sockets. I wanted to send it back to Hell, or send it there for the first time if it had never visited, and let it suffer for all eternity. I couldn’t know if my dad was the only victim. He probably hadn’t been. Most of the time, the demon tended to pray on men that had no children.
I’m not sure how it made a mistake with me. I just knew that the mistake would be its last.
*
I was sitting on my bed, surrounded by salt, holding a knife and a bottle of holy water with Jason and Richard waiting down the hall. They had closed the door, and to make themselves inconspicuous they were pretending to work on homework. In reality, they were waiting for me to call for help, if I needed it. I suspected I would.
Richard had dug deeper into his network of friends. He had spoken to a mother of a friend of a friend who owned an antique shop. She apparently owned a ceremonial dagger from the Middle Ages. She allowed him to borrow it for a price, so long as he brought it back in good condition. I don’t think she knew what we were using it for.
I felt the demon before I saw it. The room grew cold. I don’t mean chilly, I mean cold, like those walk-in freezers. Jason likened it to a cold room he had used during research. I don’t know anything about those, but maybe the analogy is useful for someone else.
It still scared me. The tall black figure with its truncated antlers was so unnatural, I figured I would never get used to seeing it. When it appeared in front of me and reached out a hand- I noticed now that the hand was covered in dry, cracked, human skin- I wanted to scream. I didn’t. I reached out my knife and stabbed it in the arm.
It didn’t flinch. The hand kept moving and grasped my neck. I could feel the dry skin shed and fall down the front of my shirt. I wanted to gag. The roughness of the hand drew blood. Instead of freezing up, I managed to open my bottle of holy water and toss it.
That did something. The demon let out this whine that I can liken only to an electronic device. It backed up, and I tossed more water on its face. The skin started to melt. I thought I had succeeded, but then bone began to surface from beneath, forming what looked like a grinning animal skull that was gnashing its teeth.
I screamed then. Richard burst into the room and threw his knife. Somehow it landed in the demon’s chest. That’s what did it, I think. It screamed so loud I thought I’d lose my hearing. My ears rang, and Richard was saying something to me, but my attention was fixated on the center of the room. The demon had tripped over a particularly large pile of salt. It was melting, taking the floor with it, like we had dropped a bottle of acid. There was a hole next to my bed.
I ignored what he and Jason were saying. I kept my eyes on the floor, watching the hole widen. It stopped, and when I finally turned towards my roommates, an RA was staring at us through the open doorway, frozen in place, fixated on the same thing that I had been.
He must have also noticed the antlers next to the hole.
*
The official report said nothing. It could not determine what had happened in the room. The RA didn’t believe our story. No other explanations emerged, though. I was told that no acid could eat through the floor as quickly as the demon’s remains had. Thank God Jason still had cameras up, because they showed exactly what had happened, though without the demon it just showed a hole opening up in the carpet.
Richard lost the knife and had to fork over a whopping two thousand dollars. He told us it was a bargain. The item had been priceless, most likely, and the woman could have bankrupted him for losing it.
I haven’t been haunted by anything since that incident freshman year. I started going to parties again. Jason moved on, pretending that none of it had happened, but Richard had a fantastic story to share with people. Most didn’t believe him. Some egged him on. A choice few took what he said too seriously, offering him other demon-hunting supplies. He laughed them off, saying the problem had been dealt with, so they instead came to me and explained the seriousness of my situation. I shook them off, too. What was I supposed to do? Start stockpiling ceremonial weapons and holy water?
I never told my mom. She wouldn’t have believed me. She didn’t hear about what had happened in the room, either. The footage showed us doing nothing, only me staring at a bunch of salt as it started dissolving the floor. None of us got in trouble. They didn’t even care that I had a knife sticking out of the wall. I guess they were too preoccupied with the rest of the scene.
I wish I could give you some dramatic conclusion, a fight that lasted for hours or an epic chase. On second thought, I’m glad I can’t describe that, but the truth is that what happened was pretty simple. I tossed some water and Richard threw a knife. That was it. The whole thing took thirty seconds at most.
It seems that most things in life are anticlimactic. An exciting movie, a first date, graduation- once it’s over, you’re left with a certain emptiness, like whatever you just did shouldn’t have ended so quickly. They say time flies (I hate that cliché), but it doesn’t. What happens is we expect things to be greater than they really are. We imagine some grand outcome, beyond what reality can provide us, and it almost never goes that way.
I can’t know for sure that I will be safe for the rest of my life. I only know that I’ve gotten through college unscathed so far. If there is another encounter, it won’t end well, because I won’t be prepared this time. It will be different, surely, a more dangerous monster or just a surprise attack when I least expect it. I definitely won’t write another story about it, because I’ll probably be dead.
If you hear about some university kid that dropped dead of a heart attack or washed up in a river, it will probably be me.

2020.09.25 14:36 VisibleConfusion69 Open Letter to Steve Huffman and the Board of Directors of Reddit, Inc- If you believe in standing up to hate and supporting black lives, you need to act

Open Letter to Steve Huffman and the Board of Directors of Reddit, Inc – If you believe in standing up to hate and supporting black lives, you need to act
Dear Steve,
On June 1, you shared a letter on Reddit’s blog “Remember the Human – Black Lives Matter”. In this letter, you claim “as Snoos, we do not tolerate hate, racism, and violence, and while we have work to do to fight these on our platform, our values are clear.”
As of today, neither you nor any other Reddit admins have shared this letter anywhere on reddit.com. However, the response to this message was swift on Twitter, where you were rightfully labeled as hypocritical based on your long and well-recorded history of defending racism and white supremacy on this site.
Among the many responses was this message from former CEO of Reddit, Ellen Pao.
I am obligated to call you out: You should have shut down the_donald instead of amplifying it and its hate, racism, and violence. So much of what is happening now lies at your feet. You don't get to say BLM when reddit nurtures and monetizes white supremacy and hate all day long
Many others shared links and screenshots of your past statements saying “Open racism and slurs are fine to post on Reddit”.
The problem of Reddit’s leadership supporting and providing a platform for racist users and hateful communities has long been an issue. Nearly six years ago, dozens of subreddits signed the original open letter to the Reddit admins calling for action. While the Reddit admins acknowledged the letter and said it was a high priority to address this issue, extremely little has been done in the intervening years.
On June 5, you shared this update on /Announcements, Upcoming changes to our content policy, our board, and where we’re going from here. In the post, you stated that there is a need for continued adjustments of Reddit’s content policy to address racism and that this remains a priority. These continued statements that you hear us, that this is a priority, or that you are working on it are not enough. It has been five years since your return as CEO and this still remains Reddit’s most glaring problem.
Steve, if you and Reddit genuinely care about the values of standing up to racism and hate, then you need to back it up with real action. As moderators on this website who have dedicated countless hours to keeping this site running, we call on Reddit to take the following steps:
At /AgainstHateSubreddits, we have laid out the many failures of Steve time and again to stand up to white supremacy on this site time and time and time again.
With a website with the impact of Reddit on the broader conversations being held in communities around the world, this website needs real leadership and real action.
We hope that Reddit will not just share empty platitudes — but will take a meaningful stand against hate, and take these recommendations to heart.
This letter is co-signed by more than 200 300 350 430 550 650 800 communities representing well over 200 hundreds of millions of subscribers:

2020.09.25 04:43 XHaunt23X Five Nights at Freddy’s: A cohesive retrospective and analysis from an ex-fan

Prologue

Five Nights at Freddy’s is a series that I used to love. It was one of my favorite game series, and I used to be really active here because of it. Over the years, I realized I wasn’t happy with the state of the franchise. That turned into a love/hate relationship, before I realized that I simply had nothing positive to say anymore. When I became hateful towards the series, I left the sub, because I didn’t want to be a toxic user who only spreads negativity
It’s been a long time since I left, and I’ve had a year or two to reflect on why I felt a hateful with the series. In the past I tried to explain why, without much success. I think I can do a better job now. My goal here isn’t to spread hate or negativity, I want to create something constructive out of this before I leave the community for good. That being said, I dropped out shortly after Help Wanted, so if any of my criticisms have been addressed since them, please let me know
With all that out of the way, I think I want to start talking about the series. And the best place to start is the thing I think has the most problems

Part 1: Gameplay

Before I dive into exactly what’s wrong with the gameplay, I need to quickly explain what the gameplay is, since that’s the basis I’ll be using to analyze the games
Five Nights gives the player a set of tools. These tools need to be used effectively to survive enemy encounters, as they usually have some sort of drawback. With multiple tools at the player’s disposal, and tools working well in conjunction with others, I think this lands it really cleanly as a strategy game
On the flipside, the game has a linear set of levels. Each level increases in difficulty, requiring the player to have a better understanding of the game to progress. Higher levels also cause enemies to behave quicker and more erratically, with most games adding more enemies with progress. In addition, these games are often extremely simple. It’s easy to boot up the game and understand how the game will play without instructions. If that’s not traditional arcade design, I don’t know what is
In my eyes, Five Nights is an arcade strategy series. And on paper, this sounds like a phenomenal game. But something this series does have a reputation for is having poor gameplay. But why?
There’s a lot of contributing factors, but I think the biggest one is that with the way the games are designed, there’s a distinctive lack of a skill curve, which means the games lack a satisfying and addictive loop that arcade games are known for
The biggest hurdle in the games are learning the enemy behavior. The tools the player has often lack any depth, only being surface level. This isn’t to say there aren’t advanced strategies tools can be used for, but those are rare and are also fairly easy to pull off. If one was to watch others play a game in this series, and learn enemy behaviors through them, it’s completely plausible that that player would be able to breeze through the game afterwards on a first playthrough
Because of the simplicity of the player’s tools, there isn’t a skill curve for the player to master, and a sense of progression is lost. Beating the game is a binary process, you either know how to survive an enemy encounter or you don’t. I think this is best demonstrated by the withered animatronics in FNaF 2. The player’s ability to pull up the mask isn’t what kills them on level 3, it’s learning that enemies require it to be on instantly. Once the player learns this lesson, they’ll survive almost every encounter with that enemy type
Another issue I feel this game struggles with is difficulty. Increasing the game’s speed and making enemies more erratic isn’t a bad approach, and I quite like it. However, the problem comes from more extreme difficulties. In many arcade games reaching the kill screen or conquering the most difficult levels is a rewarding process, but I think most can agree that FNaF’s most difficult levels are frustrating and unfun.
Of course, it’s not hard to understand why. During those levels, enemies will move at a speed most people don’t have a reaction time for, and the tools the player has get no compensation for the increased pace. Look at Pac-Man, which also uses faster pace to increase difficulty. Even at its fastest pace, the game doesn’t allow the enemies to sweep the entire level in seconds, and the player is given a speed boost to keep the game on a level playing field.
This type of system isn’t at fault, and exactly why this is the result is hard to pinpoint. I think it’s a combination of the player’s tools lacking any other mechanics to be utilized, and the way enemies are designed in the series.
The enemies in this series are somewhat problematic. The enemies are designed to be simple, as is a running trend in this series. Enemies are also usually a binary case, either a direct threat that’s about to end the player’s game, or a complete non threat. There are exceptions, such as the puppet, but most enemies follow this concept
I think a big part of why gameplay can grow so monotonous is because of enemy design. Enemies don’t challenge the player once the player learns their gimmick unless the pace exceeds the player’s abilities to react. Enemies are also built to “play nice” with each other, not stepping over other mechanics.
I think this ideology is best demonstrated in Ultimate Custom Night. None of these enemies are fleshed out, and because they could possibly be active with 49 other enemies, they can’t have any complexity. The challenge is overwhelming the player. While this isn’t a bad way to design enemies, it’s a crutch the FNaF series relies on and uses again and again. This enemy behavior can be grating on players because it doesn’t challenge a player’s skills on what the game has taught them, and focuses on their ability to juggle 4 or more different tasks. The player also doesn’t get any variety to use their tools in unique or interesting ways, as enemies only focus on one mechanic to be defeated
If enemies only interact with with one tool, that tool only serves one purpose, and all enemies have to be active simultaneously, neither the tools or enemies have any room to develop for a more fulfilling experience.
Combining all these issues together, you’re going to get a game that just can’t tap into its full potential. The lack of depth in both tools and enemies mean that the strategic elements of this series are almost always under-utilized. These games often only have one strategy that’ll consistently give the player good results. The instant deaths prevent players from experimenting with their tools, not that it would provide much benefit to do so. Every game is going to look virtually identical as players only goal is to learn the golden strategy the game requires.
It’s weird. Players don’t get a chance to develop their own playstyle, or use their tools in different ways to find a flow they find satisfying. At that point, if the game can only be beaten with the strategy the developer envisioned, what’s the point of having strategic elements in the first place? You get the exact same experience watching the game being played that you would playing it yourself, which shouldn’t be the case
An arcade/stratagy game of this nature is begging to have a traditional arcade mode, but that can only work of other elements of the game have been fleshed out enough to support it. There’s no real reason to replay these games for all the reasons I mentioned beforehand, and having a fun loop is crucial to a game like this. If the strategic ideas this series has are worked on, it’d compliment the arcade structure extremely well.
So far, I’ve been overly critical of the gameplay in this series. However, I do have some really positive things to say. So I’d like to talk about the game which I feel does the best job at creating a fun and engaging experience: Five Nights at Freddy’s 4
I love this game, and I feel like this series peaked with the 4th entry
Five Nights 4 has a significantly slower pace, so from the get go there’s a much heavier emphasis on understanding game mechanics and playing well over overwhelming the player
The 4th game has the least tools for the player to use to date, only giving the player the ability to flicker their flashlight and close doors. However, I feel like this is completely compensated by having the most diverse and complex enemies in the series. First of all, the game has 2 enemy types. Type A, consisting of Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy, and Type B consisting of Fredbear and Nightmare
In this game, enemy threat is progressive, not binary. Enemies have 4 different stages of aggression that they’ll slowly cycle through, with the player given the ability to reset cycles early on 2 of the type A enemies. This system gives the player the breathing room to experiment with different tactics. Players have the ability to prioritize certain threats over others, and can develop a style that they feel best tackles the situation. If the player chooses, and has the skills to do so, they can block Foxy out of their room, completely eliminating one of the most prominent threats
The addition of multiple enemy types is absolutely wonderful, and it deeply hurts that this idea was never revisited. Type A is a balancing act like most of the games are, but without the chaos of everything going 100 miles an hour. However, alone, they get bland just like the enemies in other entries. By night 4, I often find the type A enemies starting to overstay their welcome. But Night 5 introduces Type B, which play completely differently to Type A. The player needs a different skillset to tackle these enemies, and they have multiple methods of attacking the player has to be prepared for. It gives the player enemy variety I feel this series desperately needs, while playing with the core gameplay dynamic in an interesting way
This only gets better as every level after 5 mixes both enemies into one level at different sections. This gives the player the full experience in one level, while challenging their abilities with both types. It puts the skills they’ve learned throughout the game in a fair fight without creeping into the same difficulty issues other entries have. The player’s ability to succeed solely relies on their ability to prioritize threats and assess their situation on the fly, rather then luck or reaction time.
Five Nights 4 also has a wonderful chunk of post-game content that other games are lacking. The cheats are nice reward for players to screw around with, while the challenges exist to test the player even further. The challenges give the game replay value, and require the player to completely understand the dynamics of a given situation to conquer
All things considered, I feel like FNaF 4 is the strongest title in the series for addressing a some of the issues other titles struggled with. It’s the only game that I feel really explores the potential of an arcade/strategy game that the series is based upon
That covers my feelings towards the gameplay. So let’s move on to the second biggest issue this series has

Part 2: Story

The plot is a mess. We all know this. However, the reason why this is the case isn’t too complicated. I have some major nitpicks about some elements of the story, but besides those nitpicks, I want to focus more on how the story is handled then the story itself
The biggest reason why this story is so jacked os probably because the story Scott wants to tell is constantly changing. In Dawko’s interview, Scott said that he basically made this up as he went along. It was nice to hear a little bit of what his creative process was, and I think that alone can explain a lot of the issues. But since I’m analyzing this, I’ll go into a bit more depth
With Five Nights at Freddy’s 1-3, the story was more straightforward, with most of the mystery coming from lacking information. The second and third games further explored ideas presented in the predecessor, and naturally expanded on ideas already established. There was one consistent narrative that was fleshed out with each entry
With the 4th game onward, I get the sense that Scott wanted to explore new ideas/elements in the universe that hadn’t been introduced previously. And that’s not necessarily a bad way to go. The third game was a natural conclusion to the missing children story arc, so creating a new one was a good next step. It could have kept the story fresh and continued building a more cohesive world
Instead, the story got really confusing, really fast. And it’s never really left that state.
I think a problem with the way FNaF 4 was handled is due to how detached it was, and still is, from almost every other aspect from the story. I really like the idea of doing separate story arcs, but if that approach is taken, it still needs to understandably exist within the same world. FNaF 4 was extremely cryptic, and we still don’t know what was really going on. I don’t think FNaF 4 was necessarily the problem, it was the starting point to a new arc. The problem was that these ideas were seemingly abandoned
Sister Location was also detached from the story, but it was built off of a character we already knew. Purple guy. Sister Location was a game that further explored his character in an interesting way, and built upon what we knew about him instead of introducing completely foreign concepts. Sister Location also had a very clean story all things considered, and it really wasn’t that bad until you got into the details. I like how SL handled the story. It was a different take on the series, and I think its more visual-novel storytelling was a nice change from cryptography
However, Sister Location had nothing to really do with FNaF 4, and the few things that did only created more questions.
After this point, it gets messy. Again, I feel like the Story Scott wanted to tell kept changing. 1-3 felt more tightly knit as several chunks of a single story, while each game afterwards seems like its doing its own thing, and has little to do with each other. But I feel like up to Sister Location, I can get what Scott was going for. FFPS I’ll get to later.
One of the problems this story has is a lack of consistency. I don’t know if its a side effect of the changing storyline, or if its just human error. But details from different parts of the story would clash with one another, and I’m positive this wasn’t intentional. With the cryptic approach to storytelling, as rewarding it can be, can easily be misinterpreted. And when that happens, it’s absolutely vital to clear things up. We’re not perfect, and we’re not going to pick up what the intended interpretation is everytime. I feel like that the reason this story can be so incoherent is because misinterpretation upon misinterpretation has been stacked upon each other. It’d be like if Scott drew an hourglass, we saw two triangles, and we’re trying to figure out how the illuminati connects to the story when that has nothing to do with what he was originally going for.
Honestly, if Scott could just communicate about this stuff, even a little, I feel like that’d help out the community a lot
The last thing I really want to touch on with the story is Scott’s use of alternate universe. The books and FNaF World
I forget who said it, I once saw a comment on the sub that was along the lines of “The books are not canon, except when they are” and I think that sums up the entire issue with that
With an alternate universe situation, especially with a story like FNaF’s, it’s important to clarify exactly what that universe is, whether that’s explained subtly in the universe, or externally. Both of Scott’s AU’s are in this state of limbo where they both do and don’t effect the story. It’s not “nothing is on the table” or “everything is on the table” as ideas and characters bleed from one universe to another. I’m not saying that an alternate universe can’t have mystery. Undertale/Deltarune handle the AU situation really well in my opinion. Toby Fox, the dev of those games, came out an explained that Undertale/Deltarune don’t effect one another, and is more just a bizarro combination.
If only certain things can/can’t crossover, that should probably be clarified
And that wraps up why I think the story is so convoluted. I feel like a little communication would go a long way to clearing confusion and frustration. A mystery should be fun, and at least for me, this mystery hasn’t been fun for years
There’s a lot of things I could nitpick in the story, but there are only two things that really bug me
Sister Location introduced several well written characters that could have really pushed the story forward. Michael was a great protagonist to explain why a person would go back to a death trap in-universe. Circus Baby/Elizabeth was a fascinating character that provided a unique take on the possessed animatronic that was ripe for exploration. The cast of FFPS could have finally given us some well-crafted character dynamics for the story, but they were killed off at the end of the game without tackling any of the ideas set up in Sister Location. Scott has done great storytelling through character interactions before as well. For example, in the third book, Scott set up a dynamic where Elizabeth was a neglected child. She wanted to satisfy her father, who just doesn’t care about her wellbeing. It’s heartbreaking, and while it doesn’t justify Elizabeth’s actions in the novel, she became a tragic and sympathetic character. There are so many ideas that could have been explored to create new stories built around characters, but FFPS did nothing with these concepts. Michael could have been swapped with anyone else and it would have only changed a few lines of dialogue, and Elizabeth was just a murder robot because her programming or whatnot. Even that idea could have been explored, fighting against the shell she exists in, but it never was
While I think creating new story arcs to further explore this world was a great way to continue the narrative, and while you need new stories to do that, something I personally dislike is when older parts of a story are re-written in order to fit a new vision. This isn’t about the retcon, whatever that may be, it’s about how certain elements of the story has been drastically changed in order to fit the new narrative. This is really hard to explain, so I’m going to be use an example that I feel demonstrate what I’m talking about
In the first book, Purple Guy is portrayed as being a whimsical psychopath. He dances in the springtrap suit, has a bit of a sense of humor, while also being incredibly disturbed. He’s almost childish at times, and it’s made pretty clear he takes pride in the suffering of others. It’s a well written character, and I enjoyed him as a villain. In the third book, Purple Guy is this rotting corpse in a wheel chair that’s obsessed with his science experiment. He uses Baby to go out and do dirty work for him as he works with remnant. This is also a well written character, but this isn’t purple guy. If they didn’t share the same name, they wouldn’t be recognizable as the same character, as they act completely differently. If this was an ongoing arc in the novels and Purple Guy was morphing into another person, that’d be one thing, but I don’t feel that the second book really did anything to setup this idea. Purple Guy was just an entirely different character now

Part 3: Horror

Out of everything I’ve talked about, this feels like the biggest mixed bag.
There’s something to be said for people who can create dread in a moment, and Scott is one of those people. It doesn’t matter which game you play, each of these titles bleed in an intoxicatingly rich atmosphere. Scott is phenomenal at invoking certain feelings or vibes in his games. Whether it’s the chaos in 2, the unnerving silence in FFPS, or if the game is scored with a foreboding yet inviting soundtrack. This series does a great job at creating an aura
That’s why I simply don’t understand why this series relies so heavily on the tired, overused trope of jumpscares. So much effort is put into creating this thick feeling of uncertainty and paranoia, yet it’s always ruined by the need to have something startling the player. It’s not scary, it’s such a cheap and lazy thing to crutch on, and I can’t help but feel that this crutch ruins so much of the atmosphere Scott is able to create
The greatest fear of this world is the fear of the unknown. Finding ways to exploit this feeling is incredibly difficult, but Scott has done it. I feel like FNaF 4 is the scariest game in the franchise. Not because of the stupid robot bunny screaming in your face. You hear these nightmarish chimes at the beginning of every level, the footsteps of beasts outside of sight, and when the chimes end, you’re left in almost complete silence. There’s this awful sense of loneliness and slow panic that thrives in FNaF 4. Every time you run up to a door, every single individual time, you have no idea whether there’s a monster towering above you. No idea. The only indication you’ll have to if you’re safe or not is feeling the breathing in your ears. And if you’re scared, your heart is beating in your head, you’ll run up to that door and you won’t be able to hear anything over your own panic. You’ll just stand there unable to focus. And all you can think is “I don’t know if I’m about to die”
That is a sense of terror that sticks with you hours after you’re done playing. That uncertainty, that hail Mary. That moment at the door completely unable to know if that’s it. That is the most terrifying experience I’ve ever had in a video game. It is absolutely genius. And it’s that type of utter terror that blows these shitty jumpscares out the water

Part 4: Conclusion

At the end of the day, I wouldn’t say any of the games are “bad” because while they’re flawed, I can still see potential in them, and I can understand why people still find enjoyment out of them. I think the ideas this series is founded upon are wonderful, and at times they still shine through what I perceive as botched execution. Arcade/stratagy is a beautiful genre that lends itself to deep skill-based experiences, which is why I feel so disappointed by the lack of complex mechanics or enemies. There could be something really fun and addicting here if time was taken to refine the games’ ideas
The story could have been handled better. I think Scott could make a fantastic story if he took the time, but making it up as it goes along has caused so much confusion and frustration. I wish Scott would talk more about this stuff. It’s ridiculous a bit how things have gotten.
And Scott’s great at thrilling atmosphere. I really mean that, I love the sound effects and music he uses to make something almost Hellish. It feels like the franchise’s crutch on jumpscares is ruining what should be so much more.
All things considered, I still like this community. And Scott is capable of some fantastic things. The Desolate Hope is a testament of his abilities. But man, besides FNaF 4, I feel like this series has struggled to reach anything past mediocrity. I still hope this series finds proper footing at some point. There’s so much this series could be, and I still see so much potential in this franchise.

2020.09.25 00:14 ImBrNdo 18 [M4F] Long Island - I don't think I believe in soulmates, but maybe i'll find mine here :)

Hey, so let me tell you a bit about myself:
18M, Caribbean, 5'6, Pansexual, HELLA dorky, and definitely not afraid of an LDR
I am NOT some 6' dude with blue eyes, so if you came here expecting one of those, leave please 💀 also if you wouldn't date a pansexual, don't belive in BLM, or don't wear a FRICKIN mask outside.. we really wouldn't get along.
But if you aren't that kind of person, please read on 😊
My personality type is ENFP-t and my zodiac sign is Cancer (if either of those things matter to you lol)
I'm a pretty active person and try to keep in good shape, but i usually only work out at home. Would love to meet someone who is just as active as me
I say i'm a huge gamer but i haven't played a good rpg game in forever :( but i love playing Among Us with the homies! I'm pretty bad at it though haha
I have ADHD so if you love stupid late night rambles and calls, i'm you guy :)
I love reading, especially mystery and horror novels. Those are also some my favorite movie genres as well, alongside adventure and fantasy! My favorite book by far is Alchemist!!
My music taste is super diverse, i don't really understand listening to one music genre, so if you have a playlist you can share, lay it on me 😁 I don't necessarily have a favorite artist but the two i've been obsessed with recently are Matt Maeson and Ava Max
Always accepting anime reccomendations! Although my list keeps getting bigger smh..
Anyways! That's about it, hopefully something here caught your eye. Message me if you think we could get along well, and i'll message you asap! And don't worry about pictures or face reveals, i'm pretty camera shy myself

2020.09.24 21:49 GR3ENKAGE [REQUEST] [STEAM] Hotline Miami (9.99$) (2nd attempt)

Hi, I just played Hotline Miami 2 and I think is a pretty good game the characters are great and the story is pretty well writing if you know the right dates and all, also the retro/synth wave styles of the 80s goes really well the story and theme of the game.
My favourite characters are Alex and ash, In a way you can play as to characters so you can kill enemies with a chainsaw will the other watches your back, sadly they were underused in the game.
One of the reasons I bought Hotline Miami 2 was to get the jacket character in payday 2 and I absolutely like the mystery of the character like why he only speaks with a recorder or the reference of the calls he would receive and why is he obsessed with the calls so I would like to know that character more in depth along with his story.
I also heard that the first game is way better than the second one so I wanna know if is true.
The game is 9.99 $ on steam but I don't know if the currency changes in different countries (in my steam is 9.99 but in other country could be more) So I would be asking for a 10 $ gift card. but if Hotline Miami is 9.99 $ in the steam of the kind fellow who's considering to gift it to me I will gladly accept it.
Thank you.

2020.09.24 06:22 SriFenbyEx Fun and Intrugie Series: DM'ed two groups at once > time for PVP

A war of Fun and Intrigue Saga
Episode 1 to 5
Episode 6 to 10
(Skipp halfway to PVP portion - the beginning is introduction to the second group)
< Episode 11 > - Insider and Trading
Date: [Sea Season / week 1 / day 7] - Weather - Moderate Winds
After leaving the mines the team gave a small report to the captain in charge of guarding the entrance then we informed the mayor of the mining town that it's safe to resume working. Got in a nice much-needed rest and before heading out the team surveyed the surrounding area and spotted a dirt road that saved half a day of travel when going back to the warrioranger country city of Stone-Wall. Gave the manager and blacksmith the good news and rewarded with a 15% discount in the store and got 375 GP on top, the blacksmith promised to pay more later. After which everyone took another two-week vacation. Birdman got the idea of starting his own Meat-And-Wheat business and went hunting, good cleric went to help out at the blacksmith and sharpened his sword and barbarians shiny new +1 Glaive that he bought with the discount - had the Shop-Mart logo on the side of the mean-steel and had that freshly unwrapped plastic smell.
Doom Guy did manual labor then high-five people back to health poorly at a clinic Cringe-Cleric was working at. A bad rumor was spread about Doom Guy and he successfully manages to sue the clinic out of court, got banned from entering it though. Bard got drunk and committed a crime, got the absolute piss whipped out of him. Successfully faked being near death and dragged to the clinic after a few more beatings, the same exact clinic that cringe-cleric was working at and """ paid his bill """. Afterward, Bard gathered critical information on the contenders and the team pairings.
Leeroy from the Hammer-Shields managed to pay the ransom somehow has entered in and Bob scarred from his encounter at the mines makes an appearance, full of grit and newfound power. Barbarian is paired up with the prince of Paladin country Wesland, the same Wesland that framed him for murder and ruined his Nobel family's name. Prince of Wesland unlike his daddy is a Pally Bro, helps out the poor and does good deeds. Doomguy is paired up with an anime weeb Kensei, Birdman is with an old-timey ranger who uses poison, good-cleric with another cleric who he ran into earlier in rigging that they're on the same team is helping in changing the weather for top-tempest tactics. Cringe-Cleric with an Elf warlock who doesn't like humans and also tried to feed the Bard false information, and lastly prior year's champ the Gladiator Balk Bogan who shit talks constantly and has the power to back it up.
A little bit more of info gathering went on and found out the capabilities of the contenders. A cleric sharing the same god as the good-cleric says to mess with people from the main church he uses banishment then undoes the spell. Kensei weeb has a sword that's bound to her that can shoot lightning, an ol timey-ranger uses strong poisons, and that the warlock is a threat in close quarters. Bard wanted to expand his One-Man-Band show but has competition, there's an Orc Quarte in town and they hold a contract to play at the exclusive Stone-Wall Tavern, the biggest of it's kind and it cost 100 gp just to walk through the door. It's also where the best contenders of the war games get to eat for free. Bard wanted to get the owner to give him the contract instead-but gets turned away at the front door by security, tries to do sneaky bard stuff but ultimately the task provides to be more of a chore and not worth it, especially with the bad rolls the bards been getting of late.
After that, your standard carousing - gambling, disorderly conduct, and other minor shenanigans'. However one thing did come to mind - the crowd loves show-boating and often throws gold and items into the arena for exciting plays. In the event that we managed to go 1-v-1 with each other, we could fake fight like good ol wrassling and see just how much we can get out from the crowd.

< Episode B-1 > A Mental Adventure Date
[Sea Season / week 1 / day 1] - Weather - Moderate Winds
A new group of """ Adventurers """ appears, this time it's a wee band of four. Changeling Bard (Tard Bard) / Goliath Fighter / Tabaxi Thief (Thief) / Dragonborn (Ok-Paladin)
These four which will now be named the < Mental Group >. While waiting in line to signup for the Tournament in Springhelm they talk and get to know each other better. The tournament doesn't start for another two weeks so in their downtime they pursue a quick expedition job, the prior group of adventures of the expedition faced got themselves killed. So Druid/Warlock country Numush pulled out and Wizard/Sourcer country Bers is going to continue the expedition alone. This is going on while the now named 6-man is doing useful things when not doing shenanigans'. The party decides to grab some items from Shop-Mart before heading out to the big boy empire country Brint capital and chartering a boat. Tard-Bard turns invisible and successfully shoplifts a normal healing potion and a greater healing potion for the team.
Fumbled at the table and alerted the guard, thankfully the table was a bit wobbly and one of the legs was already short, being held up by a coaster. Thief buys four daggers and the other two just browse the wares. Getting to the location of where the team had to take on the quest is a week travel so everyone decide to charter a boat at the Brint Empires capital. The walk from fighteranger country's city of Stone-Wall to Empire's capital is only 9 miles so it was a quick walk. After browsing for some magic rings and the Goliath buys a pan-flute despite not knowing how to play it. We stop by the local food stalls for some cheap 1gp snacks, not all that tasty but it fills people up, well everyone but the Tard-Bard eats at the stand, Tard-Bard eats a ration which cost 5gp. They get to the boat captain and Tard-Bard successfully seduces the captain so he gets half off on the boat fair. Fighter tries to persuade the captain and screw up so the rest of the team has to pay full price, being 48gp a person for a day's travel, Tard-Bard pays 24gp. During this boat ride, intense rock-paper-scissor gambling went on while the Tard-Bard kept further seducing the boat captain. Fighter plays the pan-flute terribly but is determined to become proficient. Soon he joins the Tabaxi in gaming and overall loses 20gp between the both of them, Ok-Paladin is just chilling.
The team gets to port and Tard-Bard after further seducing the boat captain didn't wash his hands after said seduction - roll 1d6 poison damage. The team eventually finds the person looking for adventurers to assist in the expedition, a High-Elf Cleric named Dain. Tard-Bard shapeshifts into Dain right in front of him, gets a mean mug from Dain - the party still asks if they can assist in the expedition. Dain accepts their help with a wary demeanor, explains that the local inhabitants drove him and his prior team away from the nearby island. Some lizard people and Yuan-ti, there's some ancient text on that island that the main church really wants. The Fighter who has a negative in persuasion asks for an increase in pay - fails. But Dain's not lying about his objection or his entire story though, despite the weak insight check. We accept the job, and after a small boat ride arrives at the expedition main campsite at the bottom of a cliff, a small walk later inside of a ruined small church.
The Fighter still plays the pan-flute hoping to improve but plays so terribly the camp-site guard captain suffers 4 points of damage - maybe one day. It's at this point the Tard-Bard gets his character flaw - for every incredibly stupid thing he thinks or acts he rolls 1d4 for physic damage. "I want to step in that bear trap" Why? "Well - mentally. I mentally step in the bear trap" Congratulations you now have a character flaw, roll 1d4 for every time you do or think something stupid enough. Also gains a trait, provided he does something useful afterwards he can reroll to see how much HP he heals back. He wants to use Tiny Hut spell for a nice cozy place to stay for the other expedition members, roll 1d4 for healing- get 1 HP back. Expedition team sleeps in the hut, Camp-Guard captain maintains watch, Dain casts Alarm for good measure, other NPC checks traps to make sure they're in good working condition and the rest of the team sleeps outside of the hut. The team sleeps a good sleep for tomorrow's adventure.

[Sea Season / week 1 / day 2] - Weather - Moderate Winds
After setting out everyone reached the temple ruins of where the Ancient book was stored, right off the bat got into a nasty encounter. Some rather meaty lizard men, a yuan-ti malison, druid, and two giant frogs. The druid was the biggest issue after managing to use Call Lightning and Heat Metal on Ok-Paladin, after some back in forth the frogs died first thanks to Thief and Fighter. Tard-Bard says something stupid again and rolls 1d4 physic damage somewhere along the lines, but afterward turned invisible manages to cuck the Druid on his next turn. Fighter and Ok-Paladin goes blow for blow on the yuan-ti and remaining lizardman, Dain is in the back healing and buffing but has to get in close to heal Ok-Paladin because he got KO'd due to heat metal. After a round of healing by two other teammates, Ok-Paladin was back at 2/3ds health. Enemy Druid makes a wind wall to deter any forward attackers and by extension disallowing the yuan-ti and last lizardman to run. Dain casts Silence and ultimately puts an end to the Druid's shenanigans, Bard tackles prone Druid but doesn't do much good as the druid passes a check on his next turn. The last remaining lizardman goes down via Breathweapon from Ok-Paladin, Fighter manages to wound the Yuan-ti enough that Dain manages to kill it via melee. Afterward, Dain drops silence and the first thing we heard was the screams of the Druid as he gets the living shit beat out of him. Early morning death battle completed, the team takes a long rest before entering the dungeon.
Sneaking mission start - The team enters the ruins and arrives at the main entrance, Tard-Bard and Thief goes invisible, Dain casts locate the ancient book and points out the general location of the book. Inside is dimly lit so Thief peeps through the keyholes and sees a couple of enemies in different hallways. The hallway that looks like it goes to the object has a yuan-ti guard standing on the other side of the door. Dain takes cover behind some walls, Fighter and Ok-Paladin takes cover near the door, Thief is invisible and stand in front of the door crouched. The door swings outwards towards both Fighter and Ok-Paladin so they'll be just out of sight. Tard-Bard knocks on the door and gently opens it, the guard walks out and gets sneak grappled by the Fighter. Hand over mouth what happened next was a single turn of the Goliath and Ok-Paladin killing it via ass whooping. Tard-Bard and Thief is still invisible and does recon, spots another yuan-ti but he's sleeping. They leave him alone and continues to look for traps and exploring the hallways. Just before closing in onto the treasure room, there's another large room with two yuan-ti. One of them leaves temporarily and the other is in the corner overlooking the entire room, sharpening his weapon so not really paying attention.
Inside the same hallway outside the large room and right in front of the treasure room is a small pile of corpses. The closest to the treasure room the more decayed the bodies looked to be, there's also some goop on the bodies. Tard-Bard steps over the bodies and examines the treasure room door, the door looks bloated and waterlogged - it's in very bad shape. Peeps through the keyhole and spots a Black Pudding on the other side of the door and a magical chest with the ancient book in it. Gamer Strats as Tard-Bard and Thief make a line of corpses from the Black Pudding room to the large room with the yuan-ti in it. Right before Tard-Bard drops the last corpse Thief stands back, the last corpse was dragged just in front of the door enough to lead the Black Pudding into the room. Tard-Bard drags the last corpse too loudly and alerts the yuan-ti, as the yuan-ti is walking towards the corpse Tard-Bard opens the Black Pudding door, Black Pudding starts to eat it's way to the yuan-ti until it started attacking it. The second yuan-ti comes back, while all of this is going down Tard-Bard runs past the Black Pudding and double checks the chest for traps then tears the lid open and scoops up the ancient book and some treasure. A whole lot of gems, gold, and a +1 Rapier. Thief and Tard-Bard books it to the main room where everyone was waiting. Tard-Bard decides to pickpocket the sleeping yuan-ti and finds some gold and a potion of hill-giant strength, most likely pillaged from one of the dead corpses. After arriving at the main room the team books it out of the ruins
> Sneaking Mission S-Rank <
Once back to camp vastly impressed Dain manages to get the camp guard captain and his assistant to give our team a little bit extra gold to keep them on their good side for future expeditions. An extra 40 GP for each person, once back to town port Dain pays for the boat fare back to the empire capital. After a day sailing and another quick jog, the team get back to Stone-Wall. Tard-Bard sells the gems, overall the party made nearly 1,000 GP. Pretty nice haul - though it was a successful mission it ends on a somewhat sour note. Fighter got cold feet after the entire expedition and ends his adventuring career, Player's schedule changed and couldn't play anymore. Shame but the adventurer's life isn't for everyone, remaining team members use the rest of this and next week dicking around carousing until the big day arrives. The beginning of the tournament arc.

< Episode X-1 > Torunament Arc - Part 1
[Sea Season / week 3 / day 1] - Weather - Moderate Winds
There was some time before everyone gathered into the arena, Thief meets up with the Big Group now name Think-Bard during a drunken haze of debauchery. Losing half of their personal gold. Thief also loses half of his items but gets a treasure map, lastly, Thief slept with a trap. Birdman invests into a food-truck attachment for the wagon and goes with Think-Bard near the fancy tavern to get another chance for Think-Bard to get that contract. Think-Bard gets a nat 20 and plays so well not only the fancy tavern's owner gives him the contract to play as the opening act, but Bird-Man earns nearly triple the gold for his last two remaining rations when he sold them from his food-truck. Think-Bard doesn't use his last action but saves it for a certain surprise. Both Big-Group and Mental Group plans to split the winnings between their respective teams.
It - Is - Time We all gather in the arena main gathering hall, while the normie fights were going on inside the arena. The referee goes over the rules of the fights - three very important rules.
Rule #1 - Flight and levitation are off-limits, the crowd doesn't like cowards who also disengage which is okay but this leads into...
Rule #2 - Don't be boring - the arena was built with magic stones and the mood of the crowd has profound effects on the combatants. Attacks hit more cleanly and cuts go deeper - and vise versa. Asides from that it's not uncommon for massive amounts of gold, items, and furniture tossed into the arena to do cool stuff off of.
Rule #3 - No killing - it is very important to not kill an opponent as you will pick up the very expensive resurrection bill.
Balk Bogan showboats during the explanation of Rule #2 but was told to settle down by the ref. Afterwhich the crowd goes absolutely nuts and we can hear them stomping on the floor shouting "We want more - bring them to the floor!" Right before the fight the Barbarian conveniences the prince to give his share of the winnings to him to invest in Birdman's Business, Princes agree so long as Birdman gives discounts to the poor and needy. Party Members who aren't actively fighting are watching from the stands, and at certain opportunities can try to rouse the crowd, mess or assist contenders in subtle ways, or throw furniture into the ring.
It's Show Time
Round 1 Team
(A) Ex-Lords Alliance Ranger Bob - Who underwent a Training Arc
Cleric Dain - from the expedition
Hammer-Shields Leeroy - Who somehow made bail
Veteran
Wizard
Knight
VS
Team (B) John Grey - Barbarian
Prince of Wesland Solomon - Paladin
Wizard
Horseman - Paladin
Veteran
Cleric
F-I-G-H-T
The first turn starts off kind of slow without the exception of Bob being a total bad-ass critting at least half the time throughout the entire fight, gritty and scarred from his fight in the mines - he never missed a shot by the way. Prince and Barbarian went around tag-teaming everything that came their way until it happened. The crowd went wild after Barbarians wizard lands a 5-hit Fireball, Doom Guy throws a table into the area. After Bob scores a double KO in a single turn the crowd threw in nearly 300 gold, another player throws in a chair near Barbarian. One of Bob's team member jumps onto the table to rouse the crowd but fails, soon falls prone due to friendly fire via Shatter and wrecks the table. Crowd laughs and a second chair is thrown in. Barbarian drops his weapon and KO's Bob's veteran with said chair and the chair explodes - at this point the crowd threw in roughly a total of 600 gold.
Barbarian's team went back and forth hard up north while the Prince and Barbarian swept low going upwards to the top section of the arena. Leeroy who was determined to get vengeance for his embarrassment via capture gets KO'd by the Prince. More gold and a healing potion get thrown in. Dain tried his best but got Knocked out by Barbarian, Bob went full CQC but sadly rolled a nat 1 and knocked himself out. The win goes to Barbarian and Prince's team, total gold was 861 between the victors. After the ref and clerics heal and pick up the fallen it's time for: Round 2:
Team (C) Birdman - Ranger
Old Man O'Mally - Ranger
Knight
Veteran
Wizard
Cleric
vs Team (D) Doom Guy - Fighter
Izimu - Kensei
Tard-Bard
Wizard
Veteran
Knight

O'Malley stops Birdman right before he leaves and shares some of his poison, tasty extra 1d6. Tard-Bard tells jokes and buffs Doom-Guy. Ref get's out there and starts the fight which instantly turned into the Bird Team's favor. Birdman 1st Round 1-Hit KOs Tard-Bard - Birdman is not playing around. The crowd throws in a lot of money. O'Malley rolls up and gets a few good shots in with Hordbreaker feat. Doom Guy's wizard has a big idea - uses Tidal Wave on Birdman's entire team knocks down all but O'Mally and a Knight. More gold gets thrown in. Doom Guy and the team close the gap. Doom Guy charges right into Birdman's entire team and KOs Birdman. Which in return gets Doom Guy KO'd by Birdman's Team. It's at this point Doom Guy and Bird-Man have a slapping fight with each other on the floor. A lot of mass healing word was going on throughout the entire fight Tard-Bard gets back up and goes invisible, gets booed by the crowd, and loses AC until the fight ends. O'Malley is taking potshots and Izumi caught one of his rounds and fumbles when she tried to throw it on a nat 1.
She uses her Thunder Sword to make a ranged zap attack on Bird Man's cleric, she closes the gap, and KO's him next turn. Doom Guy tries to imitate the Barbarian and smacks Bird-Mans dwarf wizard with a chair that was thrown into the ring, dwarf HP got reduced from 4 HP to 1 HP, the dwarf gets knocked out next turn though. Tard-Bard manages to power heal Doom Guy, gently feeding him a greater health potion, after another mass word of Healing Doom Guy is at full health. Doom Guy/Tard-Bard Team manages to pull a win after getting messed up in the beginning rounds of the match.
Tard-Bard somehow convinces his team's Cleric who isn't all that smart to give him his share of the winnings. O'Malley manages to get cornered but surrenders like a champ as the last man standing. The crowd throws in more gold, Doom Guy victory cheers while holding up Izumi and O'Malley's hand with Tard-Bard who uses bard-magic to make a magic fist-pumping hand Total gold before splitting it split 6 ways - 1,410 DM rolled 2 Double Crits in the same fight, so that happened. Birdman proudly refuses to dip into the shared winnings but is sold a mysterious small bottle of purple poison by O'Mally, small enough to coat 3 arrows. After some haggling, he buys the poison for 100 GP and some cut of Bird-Mans business profit. O'Malley whispers into Bird Man's ear - "Purple Worm Poison" - a very nasty poison that requires an absurdly high CON saving throw and if you fail you take 12d6 damage. Worst case scenario the person or thing unlucky enough could take up to 72 points of damage just by poison alone, assuming the math isn't off.
With this, the first day of the Arena Match is over. Business Parchment Cards are exchanged and business deals are made. Barbarian advances into solving a personal quest by talking to the Prince. The evening is spent with a small bit of partying with Barbarian and Tabaxi losing half of their gold with alcohol and narcotics. Birdman sells more meal deals, Think-Bard chills and doesn't do anything, Tard-Bard finds an exotic animal trader and buys an elephant and elephant insurance while everyone else just relaxes - for now.
Day one stats - Team (B) [Barbarian / Prince] and Team (D) [Doom Guy / Izumi / Tard-Bard] Advances.
< Episode X-2 > Tournament Arc pt.2
[Sea Season / week 3 / day 2] - Weather - Moderate Winds
The second day of the tournament starts with some normie fights followed by the title fights - a nice standoff between Cringe-Cleric and Onyx the Warlock and the Cleric duo Good-Cleric & Wahmuu Life Cleric whom Good-Cleric sought out and planned for some favorable weather days in advance and Thief. Good-Cleric's plan goes off """ Perfectly """ as it starts to rain, Wahmuu maintains concentration. Good Cleric opens the fight by Call Lightning and deals good damage, wizards slinging Tidal Waves and Fire Balls, and every other contender squares off each other. Bird Man starts to sell his food then gets the crazy idea to buy the arena food, re-cook it and sell it at marked-up value. This surprisingly made then a lot of money however great shinanigans come with great unintended consequences.
Good Cleric gets into a mini-conflict with multiple attackers supported by Wahmuu, Thief goes after weaker opponents and gets a good couple of stabs and knife throws off, Doom Guy throws a table into the ring which Wahmuu does a flip off of, fails, and goes prone. Gets beat on and loses concentration soon afterward. Cringe Cleric square off against Tabaxi thief and pulls a win, Cringe-Cleric went full-on Boss-Mode. Vampiric Touch smacking people left and right, so far none of cringe clerics team-mates has fallen and only one of Good-Cleric plus Thief, overall people have been in dead-lock wearing each other down. Birdman throws a hot-dog into the ring, Thief barely conscious eats the hotdog and gets healed 1 hp. But by the time Cringe-Cleric reaches Good-Cleric Wahmuu got up and manage to mass heal everyone, Cringe-Cleric dealt with Wahmuu and had a slug feast with Good-Cleric. Thief went around assisting friendly NPCs in taking down opponents. During all of this, the crowd is going nuts throwing in massive amounts of gold into the arena. Good-Clerics allies just managed to barely beat Cringe-Cleric's allies and Cringe Cleric is still going full-on Boss Mode. Eventually, Good-Cleric manages to beat Cringe-Cleric with critical HP remaining.
Overall the victors made a nice sum of money, and big group made nearly 2.1k. Next was Balk-Bogan and his team vs another NPC team. Being last years champs they tore through the competition, Balk turns out to not only be a seasoned gladiator but a barbarian as well. Balk thinking that healing is for cowards goes full on DPS monster melee. The group makes a mental note of this and prepares to strategize against Balk, either way Good-Cleric and friends is up against a hard fight the following day.
Team (C) Good-Cleric, Life-Cleric, and Thief & Team (E) Balk Bogan
Advances

With 50 more sessions to go, the expedition to barrier peaks arc with alien golf carts, a pimp that can cast level 7 spells, and a mysterious monkey virus is soon around the corner.

Missing Flight 370
On March 13, 2018, a twitter user who went by the name strayedaway, or Ty, posted a thread about a creepy voicemail he received regarding the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. The thread went viral and many more people came out claiming to have received the same one.. This prompted people all over the internet to get involved and help solve the mystery. However, there was never a real conclusion, and after receiving an overwhelming amount of publicity and even death threats, Ty and many others linked to the thread deactivated their accounts. Many people claim the whole thing was an elaborate hoax or even an alternate reality game, but I am not satisfied with those answers. Ty’s thread and the bizarre disappearance of MH370 still linger in the back of my mind to this day.
https://www.news.com.au/technology/online/creepy-military-voicemail-warning-of-impending-doomsday-sends-internet-into-meltdown/news-story/afe34f8dce8d48a0269cd925838743e8
For those who are unaware, MH370 was an international flight that disappeared on March 8, 2014 while flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. The voicemail Ty received 4 years later was an SOS message thought to be recorded on the missing plane’s black box. Some said solar flares happening around that time may have allowed the message to be picked up by cellphones. Solar flares cause electromagnetic pulses in the atmosphere, so with increased electromagnetic activity, signals would have been amplified and had a farther range.
https://www.sciencealert.com/no-massive-solar-storm-headed-to-earth-march-2018-noaa-g1
The voicemail was a recording of a robotic voice speaking in military code. After twitter investigators deciphered it, they discovered a chilling warning about aliens followed by a string of numbers that turned out to be coordinates close to the place MH370 vanished from radar. Besides the voicemail, there are many more oddities surrounding this event and there seems to be a synchronistic pattern hiding in plane sight. Flight 370, a Boeing 777, left on the 7th day of the 3rd month and Malaysia Airlines is said to fly nearly 37,000 passengers daily.
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-26492748#:~:text=Malaysia%27s%20national%20carrier%20is%20one,Jennifer%20Pak%20in%20Kuala%20Lumpur.
The television show Lost seemed to predict the event as well, 10 years before it happened. In the show, a Boeing 777 deviates from its path, turns around, and disappears somewhere off the coast of Australia. This is exactly what MH370 did. The show also seemed to predict who would be on the plane. In Lost, some of the passengers included an actor and two men who used fake passports. On MH370, there was an actor and two men who used fake passports as well.
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/middleeast/iran/10688861/Mystery-fake-passport-holders-on-flight-MH370-were-Iranian.html
https://www.thestar.com.my/lifestyle/uncategorized/2014/03/13/marco-polo-stuntman-and-jet-lis-body-double-ju-kun-was-also-on-flight-mh370/
The actor was Ju Kun, Jet Li's body double, and fake identities were used by two Iranian men seeking asylum in Europe. Oddly enough, in Lost, a psychic predicts the plane crash. MH370‘s disappearance also seemed to be predicted by the Nigerian prophet T. B. Joshua. In 2013, T. B. Joshua warned that an aircraft carrying over 200 passengers from an Asian nation would have some serious problems. MH370 had 227 passengers on board. The video of his proclamation went viral on YouTube after the flight’s disappearance.
https://emmanuel.tv/content/missing-malaysia-airlines-mh370-prophecy-tb-joshua/
Another strange synchronicity is Lost was first aired on September 22, 2004. September 22 would turn out to be big day for CERN, exactly 7 years later. If you‘re unaware, CERN is a facility that smashes atoms together to create mini black holes and look for other dimensions. On September 22, 2011, CERN succeeded in sending particles faster than the speed of light. Physicists hypothesize that going faster than light speed could actually result in time travel. However, the claim was supposedly debunked sometime later. But this is still up for debate.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faster-than-light_neutrino_anomaly
But what I find most strange, is the fact that the man who made this discovery was forced to resign. Conspiracy theorists claim CERN did in fact achieve time travel and caused the past to change, a phenomenon known as the Mandela Effect. They say this historical event constantly switches back and forth between having happened on the 22nd or 23rd. Supposedly, every year around this time, new inconsistencies in history pop up.
https://www.alternatememories.com/historical-events/general/september-22-23-date-anomalies
Ironically, the plot of Lost is centered around a time travel experiment called the Dharma Initiative. In The Lost Experience, it’s revealed that the goal of the experiment was for people to alter the timeline and push back doomsday. Oddly enough, its logo looks just like CERN.
CERN compared to the Dharma Initiative's logo
Coincidentally, The Lost Experience was an alternate reality game. Remember that the voicemail received by Ty was thought to be part of an ARG as well. Similarly, the investigation sparked by Ty’s thread uncovered the date of a supposed doomsday event, April 18, 2018. Many speculated that on this day there would be an alien invasion. Obviously this didn’t happen, but perhaps uncovering the plan pushed back doomsday, like in the Lost game. With UFOs now in the news, the idea of an alien invasion or apocalyptic event seems even more relevant. If you’ve read my other threads, you know I think the apocalypse has something do with something known as the Black Sun. Oddly enough, MH370 also has connections to this concept. The Black Sun is a symbol that some say represents a portal to somewhere beyond space and time. This strange mural dedicated to the disappearance of MH370 depicts the plane flying straight into something resembling a black hole. The portal seems to be luring the passengers inside by telling them to come in.
\"Come in!!\"
Another mural seems to depict this as well. In this picture, we see a plane flying right into what appears to be a tear in the fabric of reality. Yet another mural shows the missing flight returning through one. Were the passengers of MH370 taken to another dimension?
Some questionable murals
This all seems reminiscent of Donnie Darko, a movie about doomsday, time travel, and a plane falling through a black hole in the sky. Just like in Lost, the main character, who is guided by a demonic humanoid rabbit, is tasked with closing a time loop and stopping the apocalypse. The Black Sun is also symbolic of Saturn, which was known to the ancients as the god of time. Saturn is also famous for having a hexagon on its North Pole. In the painting below, we see MH370 trapped behind a net of hexagons. Were the passengers victims of a Saturnian ritual?
A literal hex on MH370?
Even stranger, in Man of Steel, a trident shaped UFO that resembles the Malaysian Airlines logo crashes off the coast of Australia, just like MH370 did. The movie shows the coordinates of the UFO being 37° S 76° E. Here we see more numerology at work. But it gets weirder. If you type in the opposite coordinates, 37° N 76° W, you get the location of King Neptune‘s Park on Virginia Beach. At the park there is a statue of King Neptune holding a trident. The streets leading up to the park, which are adjacent to 33rd Street, form a trident as well.
Just a coincidence?
Okay, these 'coincidences' are getting a little out of hand.
Ironically, Virginia Beach is an hour drive from Middlesex, the town where Donnie Darko takes place. In Mission Impossible III, another movie centered around chasing a white rabbit, there’s a scene where the Malaysian Airlines logo can be seen from behind, revealing a hidden 666.
Do you see?!
The same exact scene was also used in the movie Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The movie is about sun harvesting robots who reside on one of Saturn’s moons. I find it odd they reused the same footage for two films released roughly 3 years apart.
Hmmm...
The area MH370 went missing was also near one of the 12 Vile Vortices. The Vile Vortices are anomalous regions where the planet’s electromagnetic field is thought to be stronger than usual. The regions are known for UFO activity and strange disappearances of boats and planes. The Devil’s Triangle, better known as The Bermuda Triangle, is one of the most famous Vile Vortices. Oddly enough, on the exact opposite side of the globe, is the region MH370 disappeared. Are these two places somehow connected?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivan_T._Sanderson
The Bermuda Triangle (right) and the area MH370 went missing (left)
All these connections could be nothing more than a coincidence, but I find them too profound to dismiss. I believe the matrix speaks to us in symbols and I believe it is trying to tell us what really happened to MH370. There is still a lot more to this story and it involves the rabbit symbolism I mentioned briefly. I’ve written about the white rabbit and it’s connection to time travel before, but maybe I will do a part 2 where I go into it in more detail another time. Anyways, as always, thanks for reading.

2020.09.24 03:58 endlessmodgamer What are the best currently functioning Endless Sky Mods in September 2020? (Also included are multiple both recent and outdated mods, and giant mod lists and mod pages!)

I made an account just to post this thread! I hope it does some good!
Keep in mind, I am not asking for a personal army to help me, this thread is for fun, but also because I am open to learning things I didn't previously know! I also wanted to be of service to the Endless sky community and Endless sky modding community by bringing together every mod list I could possibly find, new or old, and putting it all in once place to make it easier to find, since it was so difficult for me to find good Endless sky comprehensive mod lists when I first tried.
This way, hopefully this will show up in the search results and save a lot of people a lot of time in the future. This is an Endless sky mod list, of all other known mod lists! cool! I did this because some people in the modding community for this game were SO nice to me, and extremely helpful. I just wanted to give back somehow, even though I am awful at coding, and will likely never be able to make my own mods for any game.
Here are a few that I am currently interested in.
https://github.com/Adde-Endless-Sky

IMPORTANT: adde mod maker says that all their mods are built for "CONTINUOUS" build from what I read. (as of 23 September 2020) So I've just been using continuous build for everything, and all other mods too.

https://github.com/endless-sky/endless-sky-high-dpi
https://github.com/geojak/Czartrak-s-Ship-Pack

(as of 23 September 2020 This branch is 23 commits ahead, 12 commits behind czartrak:master.)

czartrak: "Here's an up to date version of my mod, since that fork you've got there is, I believe, an outdated version of an outdated version" https://github.com/czartrak/Czartraks-Ship-Pack

https://github.com/toilethinges/Adamas-Project
https://github.com/Amazinite/Shields-Up/releases/tag/V1.1
I am always curious to know if anyone else knows other ones that I never heard about, that are actually quite good!
Moddb also has some VERY interesting ones, most notably these three work in progress mods:
https://www.moddb.com/mods/endless-sky-a-galaxy-far-far-away
https://www.moddb.com/mods/endless-sky-n7
https://www.moddb.com/mods/endless-war-the-struggles-of-the-old-republic
Many other mod lists:
https://www.moddb.com/games/endless-sky/mods (lots of cool ones that I have no idea the level of functionality they may or may not have)
https://steamcommunity.com/app/404410/tradingforum/360671352681736707/?ctp=11
https://steamcommunity.com/app/404410/discussions/0/458604254472468598/
https://endless-sky.fandom.com/wiki/Mods
https://endless-sky.github.io/plugins.html
https://endless-sky.github.io/
https://github.com/Adde-Endless-Sky
https://opengamemods-group.github.io/ES-Mod-Share/
Which of these mods still work? Which of them are compatible with each other? Which are they not compatible with? Some are very new! Some are very old! It's an amazing mystery! But now (to the best of my knowledge) they are all linked together in one place, in one cool thread so we can all talk about it and share what I or others may have missed.

Edit: I apologize for the terrible formatting. All of my formatting efforts are disappeared away and ignored after I submit! Sorry for the inconvenience.

Edit: I was able to make a slight improvement, but this is the best I can do now.

The Time a Serial Killer Appeared on a Dating Show. And ...
